- Global Entry or TSA PreCheck — which should I get?
- Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck, costs $100 for five years against PreCheck's $78, and additionally skips the customs queue on international arrivals. If you take even one international trip in five years, Global Entry is the better buy. PreCheck only wins if you never fly internationally or cannot clear the Global Entry interview requirement.
- Is NEXUS really cheaper than Global Entry?
- Yes — $50 against $100 for the same five years, and NEXUS includes Global Entry kiosk access and TSA PreCheck on top of the US-Canada land and marine lanes. The catch is enrollment: NEXUS centers are clustered near the northern border, and interview waits there are often the longest in the system.
- Is CLEAR worth it on top of PreCheck?
- CLEAR is a $199 yearly subscription, not a five-year card, so it costs more per year than every CBP program combined. It skips the ID-check queue in front of security — including the PreCheck queue — but does nothing for customs. It only pays off at a handful of consistently congested airports where you fly very frequently.
- Why are enrollment appointments booked out so far?
- Applications outran CBP's interviewer capacity and never recovered. Waits of six to twelve months at popular centers are normal. Two things shorten it: Enrollment on Arrival, which does the interview when you land from an international trip with no appointment needed, and cancellation slots, which appear constantly and disappear within minutes.
- Can I enroll at a center in another state?
- Yes. Nothing ties your interview to your home state, and people routinely fly or drive to a center with earlier availability. That is why this tool shows the soonest openings nationwide alongside the ones near you.
- Does SENTRI include Global Entry?
- Yes. SENTRI is the most expensive CBP program at $122.25, but it bundles Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, NEXUS-equivalent lane access, and the SENTRI vehicle lane northbound from Mexico. If you cross the southwest land border regularly there is no substitute.
